Great Women of New York Tour
Women have shaped every aspect of the city's growth since before it was founded.
This tour explores the pivotal role women have played in the development of NYC and tells the hidden stories of the female pioneers whose contributions made this city into a great metropolis.
We begin with the story of the matriarchs of the Lenape Indians, the original Native American inhabitants. We then tell the stories of women trailblazers including the only women to start a village in colonial America, the first woman to be injured in fighting during the Revolutionary war, enslaved women, woman suffragist, Wall Street pioneers, religious leaders, ground breaking writers, social justice crusaders, philanthropists, and 9/11 heroes.
“A no-miss if you want to discover a new aspect of NYC. Our guide, …, was amazing and adapted the tour to our wishes. Thank you.”
“This was a fabulous tour and one of the highlights of our trip to NY. It is, in my view, exactly what a walking tour should be – the right balance of walking and lots of information. This tour was crammed full of sights and information with plenty of time at each stop to absorb the building. The guide … was engaging and very passionate about her tour. We really felt like we were delving beneath the surface of the city a bit more. Our group size was great about 12 people so we were able to keep together. Be aware that you will be on your feet for most of the tour and you will walk from 1st avenue to 8th. Comfortable shoes, lots of water. Highly recommended”
“Great, detailed information by tour guide about the history of gospel and an unforgettable service at the Brooklyn Tabernacle with its famous choir.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide … was the best! So off the beaten path, this tour made me feel like I was experiencing the life in the Bronx firsthand. [The Tour Guide] has befriended a few shop owners and we were able to see how bread was made in coal ovens, how pasta is made, tasted fresh cannoli, tasted homemade mozzarella. It was phenomenal.”
“Just finished the tour …, and it was stellar. Great insight into the Bronx and its renaissance, and some great knowledge and understanding about the Bronx’s cultural contribution to contemporary culture and Hip Hop culture. Great tour and great guide… Thanks …!”
“We did the Bronx Renaissance Tour … today. Despite the awful weather, she was very enthusiastic and taught us loads about the Bronx, its history (both good and bad) and its ongoing ‘renaissance’. Interesting concept and very good tour guide. Would definitely recommend.”
“This walking tour was outstanding. [The Tour Guide] was able to masterfully balance the conversational heaviness of slavery with the positive energy of the railroad and its supporters. It is informative, allows you to see a little of the city, and enjoyable. I would recommend this walking tour to anyone who lives in or visits NYC.”
“I thought the tour was great. Our guide was very informative. We got some wonderful photos and he was only happy to take some for us. Would highly recommend this tour.”
“Excellent tour, really enjoyable. Our tour guide … was very informative and passionate about the subject, he kept the energy up throughout and took time to interact with all members of our group. Went beyond the typical facts you would expect, and make me view NY a little differently during my time there, very impressive!”
“Great tour for gospel lovers! Despite the freezing weather, we enjoyed walking around Brooklyn and learning the basics of gospel music. The church service is long but it’s worth to hear the introducing songs.”
